Frequently Asked Questions

What ages is Paperkin designed for?
Paperkin's age-calibrated detail slider covers ages 2 through 8+. Toddler-mode pages (levels 0–20) have chunky shapes and thick lines for fat crayons; older-kid pages (levels 90–100) have intricate backgrounds and texture work for patient colorists.
Is Paperkin safe for children to use directly?
Paperkin is intended for adults (18+) creating content for children. Children should not interact directly with the generator. Safety filters tuned for ages 2–8 prevent inappropriate output, and we do not use generation inputs or uploaded photos to train third-party AI models without explicit consent.
What paper and printer should I use?
Standard 20–24 lb US Letter or A4 paper works for most colorists. For markers, use 32 lb paper to prevent bleed-through. Inkjet and laser printers both work — Paperkin pages are pure black-and-white line art at 300 DPI, optimized for cheap home printing. KDP-bound books print well on standard 60 lb paperback paper through Amazon.
Can I sell coloring pages or books made with Paperkin?
Yes — the Commercial membership ($22.49/mo) includes a full commercial and resale license: sell printed books on Amazon KDP, Etsy, your own website, or anywhere else, watermark-free. The Free, Personal, and Creator tiers are for personal and classroom use. Legacy one-time plans (Endless Canvas, Creative Studio, Publishing House) keep the commercial rights they were sold with.
How is Paperkin different from Midjourney or DALL-E?
Those are general-purpose AI image generators. Paperkin is purpose-built for children's coloring pages: it controls line thickness, shape count, and complexity by age, outputs clean black-and-white line art (not shaded illustrations), and exports at print-ready 300 DPI. The age-calibrated detail slider in particular has no equivalent in general-purpose AI tools.
How does the membership work?
Pick a plan — Personal ($4.99/mo, 40 pages), Creator ($8.99/mo, 100 pages), or Commercial ($22.49/mo, 300 credits) — and your credits refill every month. Cancel anytime from your dashboard, and every credit already granted stays in your account forever. Every membership starts with a 14-day money-back guarantee, and annual billing saves about 35%. Prefer not to subscribe? One-time credit packs from $5.99 top you up with no commitment — and they never expire either.
I bought a one-time plan before the memberships launched — what happens to it?
Nothing changes — a promise is a promise. If you bought Endless Canvas, Creative Studio, or Publishing House, you keep everything you paid for, forever: your credits, your monthly refills, and your commercial rights, all under the original terms. Those plans are no longer sold, but early supporters are grandfathered in full. Thank you for backing Paperkin early.
Do credits expire?
Never. All credits — whether from your monthly free allowance, a membership refill, or a top-up pack — stay in your account forever, even if you cancel your membership.
How long does generation take?
A single coloring page generates in about 30 seconds. Full multi-page coloring books generate per-page in real time — a 50-page book takes roughly 15 minutes. Photo-to-coloring conversion (upload a photo to convert) usually takes 30–45 seconds.
What file formats do I get?
Single pages: print-ready PNG at 300 DPI with no white borders. Full books: KDP-ready PDF with proper bleed (0.125 in), margins, and automatic spine width calculation. KDP trim sizes supported: 8.5×11, 8.5×10.5, 8.5×8.5, 8×10, and 6×9 inches.
Which languages are supported for personalization?
Sixteen languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Hindi, Russian, Hebrew, and Turkish. The child's name renders inside the page art using a kid-friendly font as part of the AI generation, not as a typeset overlay.
Can I upload my own photo and turn it into a coloring page?
Yes — visit the Photo to Coloring page. Upload a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF (up to 10MB). Common uses: family pets, family members, children's drawings, favorite toys, vacation scenes. Photos are processed transiently and not retained after conversion. Authentication is required for photo uploads.
Is there a refund policy?
Yes — a 14-day refund window applies to all memberships and credit packs, subject to a low usage threshold. Membership refunds cover your first charge, and unused renewals within 14 days. See the full refund policy for specifics. You can cancel your membership anytime from the dashboard — and the credits you already have stay yours forever.
What happens if a generation fails?
If a coloring page fails to generate due to a system error (not a content-policy rejection), the credit is automatically refunded. If you believe a credit was wrongly deducted, contact support and we'll investigate and restore it.
Does Paperkin work on mobile?
Yes. Paperkin is a responsive web app — works on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. There is no native iOS or Android app yet; the web app is installable as a Progressive Web App from supported browsers.
How do I contact support?
Email hello@paperkin.app. We respond to support requests within 1–2 business days. For legal or privacy requests (data access, deletion, etc.), the same email works and we respond within 30 days per applicable law.
Still have a question? Email us and we'll get back to you within 1–2 business days.
